4 Healthy Holiday Tips

The holiday season can be overwhelming. Between all the shopping, parties, and community events, it’s easy to lose sight of the things that are important to you. But you CAN enjoy the holidays while holding on to your sanity; keep reading for four helpful tips.Early Winter 2013

  1. Breathe! If we’ve met, you’ve probably heard me say this. Our to-do lists can seem endless and it’s sometimes hard to know where to begin. When you start to feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath, and smile as you let it out. Remind yourself that you’re lucky to be surrounded by loved ones. Yes, this sounds hokey. But yes, it works.

  2. Prepare. Focus on the “pre” part of this word. Instead of waiting for the last minute, do what you can in advance. Is there a dish that can be made over the weekend, then frozen? Vegetables that can be chopped several days beforehand? Or a table that can be set? And be sure to give yourself enough time to select thoughtful gifts so you’re not caught in other people’s panic.

  3. Nourish your body. We’re surrounded by tempting sweets this time of the year. Indulge if you can’t resist – often a bite or two is enough to satisfy your taste buds. And try enjoying a light, satisfying snack before heading out to a party. This way food won’t be a distraction, you’ll be able to enjoy time with your friends and family, and you’ll feel wonderful afterwards. Finally, remember to drink plenty of water – it’s filling and good for your body.

  4. Focus on you! Carve out time to care for yourself. Treat yourself to 20 minutes in the bath, or on the couch with a favorite book. And exercise will give you energy! So much time is spent thinking about caring for others – remember that you matter, too.
